Smart Cities

Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal, retrofitting, redevelopment, green field development program by the Government of India with the mission to develop 100 cities across the country. The objective is to promote sustainable and inclusive cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is responsible for implementing the mission in collaboration with the State governments of the respective cities. Part of each Smart City movement is the obligation to generate 10% of electricity from renewable sources of electricity such as Solar. The cities are also trying for sustainable transport and public commuting solutions such as e-mobility. 

SMART VILLAGES

Smart villages will be developed (2,500 smart villages by 2019), incorporating solar pumps for irrigation, solar water heaters, solar panels, connected with batteries for home and street lighting, etc. Nano-grids for digitally connected homes. Solar street lighting is fast becoming a reality.

SMART RAILWAY STATIONS

The Indian Railways are expected to invest US$ 140 billion over the next five years to redevelop and upgrade 400 stations.
